throw-aways; he would rebuilt it without complaint when the street cleaning crews destroyed it (as they did every few months). \u00a0Banks remembers his patience and tenderness.<\/p>\n<p>Banks wrote about him in 2009, which is the first that Dotson&#8217;s family in Austin, Texas, had heard about him in years. \u00a0They came out to L.A. and brought him home. \u00a0He died last week, so Banks wrote a moving essay about him and about how much he taught her. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.latimes.com\/local\/la-me-0208-banks-eddie-dotson-20140208,0,4597828.column\" target=\"_blank\">\u00a0Read it on Page A2 of this morning&#8217;s Times.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>I want to praise Banks for her large heart and her clear prose. \u00a0I also want to praise the\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Times<\/span> for hiring columnists &#8212;
