The Los Angeles Times recently released an article describing a new coalition that has formed to assist with the homelessness problem that the area is facing.\u00a0 <\/span>This new coalition is called \u201cEveryone In\u201d.\u00a0 <\/span>They plan to train and organize people to advocate for new housing and services for homeless people.\u00a0 <\/span>\u201cEveryone In\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>has the goal to track progress toward countywide goals, educate the public, and provide opportunities to get involved with their cause.\u00a0 <\/span>The article quotes that this coalition identifies themselves as the \u201cArmy for the good\u201d.\u00a0 <\/span>This leads me to question whether or not this is good mentality for them to have.\u00a0 <\/span>They want to rally community support for homeless housing and services.\u00a0 <\/span>Recently, Los Angeles voted to pass a $1.2 billion bond for new housing and a county tax.\u00a0 <\/span>The bond is supposed to usher in 10,000 new units with supportive services for the homeless.\u00a0 <\/span>The tax will bankroll services, rental subsidies, outreach and strengthen\/expand shelter systems.\u00a0 <\/span>Both of these provisions were ways that the community felt would assist the homeless community.\u00a0 <\/span>The \u201cEveryone In\u201d campaign hopes to mobilize the \u2018silent majority\u2019 who support homeless housing their neighborhoods.\u00a0 <\/span>They have realized that the funding aspect of it will probably be the easy part.\u00a0 <\/span>The implementation of their ideas and providing housing will take more time.\u00a0 <\/span>Providing housing, I feel, is the first step in assisting with the homeless.\u00a0 <\/span>Housing is a good step in taking people off of the streets.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
