You will present two books to the class this semester, as groups.\u00a0 *P<\/em>resentation dates are listed on the course schedule<\/a>)<\/em>:<\/p>\n

  1. You will work with a group of 3-4 other students to teach the rest of the class the content of one of the books listed as an \u201cA\u201d Book<\/span><\/a><\/strong>.\u00a0 These presentations will take place over three days in late January and early February.\u00a0 Each group will have half the class period to convey the book\u2019s content and should use the full time.\u00a0 The entire group will get the same presentation grade<\/strong>.\u00a0

  2. You will work with a group of 3-4 other students to teach the rest of the class the content of one of the books listed as a \u201cB\u201d Book<\/a>.<\/strong>\u00a0 These presentations will take place in late February and early March.\u00a0 Each group will have 25 minutes and should use its full allotment.\u00a0 The entire group will get the same presentation grade<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Submit your group’s slide show on Moodle at least two hours before the start of class.
    \n<\/em><\/strong>That way, I can put it on the classroom computer without wasting class time.
    \n(Downloading it from your email does not work!)<\/em><\/p>\n

    Creativity counts<\/em>.\u00a0 Your presentations should be lively, energetic, and based on a thorough comprehension of the whole<\/span><\/em> book.\u00a0 Every member of the team should be equally active.\u00a0 PowerPoint is okay, but not<\/em> if read boringly from a sequence of boring slides.\u00a0 The point is to teach<\/em>: show us how! \u00a0Check out the Book Presentation Guide<\/a>, found elsewhere on this site.<\/p>\n

    After the presentation, each group member will fill out an evaluation form<\/a>, specifying what they and each of the group members contributed to the group process.\u00a0 The form asks you to rank your strong points and your weak points, as well as those of your colleagues.\u00a0 This will produce a contribution grade<\/strong> for each presentation.\u00a0 (This recognizes that people have different skills while also preventing anyone from free-riding on others’ efforts.)     NOTE 1:<\/strong> Presentations that simply divide up the book chapters among the team do<\/span> reduce your apparent workload, but they reduce educational effectiveness even more. If attempted, I can guarantee they will reduce your grade to insignificance.<\/p>\n
