{"id":62,"date":"2013-11-25T22:48:56","date_gmt":"2013-11-25T22:48:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.coolsociology.net\/SOAN324WP\/?page_id=62"},"modified":"2024-04-07T23:26:53","modified_gmt":"2024-04-07T23:26:53","slug":"course-leadership","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/www.mcguire-spickard.com\/SOAN324WP\/?page_id=62","title":{"rendered":"Course Leadership"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One of the instructional goals for this course is to help you make the transition from a child-learning to an adult-learning educational model \u2013<a title=\"Pedagogy vs Andragogy\" href=\"http:\/\/McGuire-Spickard.com\/SOAN324WP\/?page_id=109\"> from \u201cpedagogy\u201d to \u201candragogy\u201d to use the technical terms<\/a>. \u00a0There are many ways to describe this.\u00a0 My favorite is:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In child-style learning, the teacher is responsible for everyone\u2019s learning.<\/li>\n<li>In adult-style learning, the student responsible for making sure that everyone else in the group learns too.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This gives you more control than usual, but you can\u2019t have control without responsibility.\u00a0 Life doesn\u2019t work that way. \u00a0<b>Therefore, class attendance, participation, and completion of the data searches and other minor course exercises are required of everyone<\/b>..<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>This includes on-the-spot assignments, which we will create by mutual agreement as we need them during class<\/li>\n<li>It also includes <a title=\"Data Exercises\" href=\"http:\/\/McGuire-Spickard.com\/SOAN324WP\/?page_id=142\">the four data searches<\/a> that we\u2019ll do at various points during the semester (due dates are listed on the <a title=\"Schedule\" href=\"http:\/\/McGuire-Spickard.comSOAN324WP\/?page_id=27\">course schedule<\/a>).\u00a0 For each of these, come to class with a one-page executive summary of your findings, plus data tables, if appropriate. \u00a0 This will provide <i>prima facie <\/i>evidence of your contribution to the learning process.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Shouldering these responsibilities constitutes 20% of your grade<\/span>.\u00a0 <\/b>Absences and non-participation thus matters \u2013 a lot.\u00a0 You need to provide your classmates with the benefit of your learning and insight<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One of the instructional goals for this course is to help you make the transition from a child-learning to an adult-learning educational model \u2013 from \u201cpedagogy\u201d to \u201candragogy\u201d to use the technical terms. \u00a0There are many ways to describe this.\u00a0 My favorite is: In child-style learning, the teacher is responsible for everyone\u2019s learning.
