the course gives you the freedom to do that.\u00a0 But I do reward quality in the final grades.<\/p>\n<p><a name=\"Standards\"><\/a><strong>My Grading Standards:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">A \u2014 (4.0)\u00a0 \u00a0You did everything I could possibly ask of you, and you did it extremely well.\u00a0 You challenged yourself, learned a great deal, and showed conspicuous intelligence.\u00a0 The quality of your work was excellent.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">B \u2014 (3.0)\u00a0 \u00a0You did all the work, and you did it well.\u00a0 You worked hard and learned a good deal.\u00a0 The quality of your work was good.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">C \u2014 (2.0)\u00a0 \u00a0You did all or almost all of the work.\u00a0 It is clear that you learned a number of things, though those things may not hang together in a systematic and critical understanding of the course material.\u00a0 The quality of your work was adequate.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">D\u00a0 \u2014 (1.0)\u00a0 \u00a0You did most of the work.\u00a0 You may have learned some things, but it is not clear that you learned anything important.\u00a0 The quality of your work was less than adequate.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">F \u2014 (0.0)\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0 You did not complete the course\u00a0requirements at the level expected of college\u00a0students in this subject area.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>(Grades of x.3 and x.7 demonstrate levels\u00a0<\/em><em>of work between these major standards.)<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><a href=\"#top\">go to top<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p><a name=\"Scoring\"><\/a><b>Scoring:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I score assignments as &#8220;Excellent&#8221;, &#8220;Satisfactory&#8221;, &#8220;Underdeveloped&#8221;, &#8220;Limited&#8221;, or &#8220;Unacceptable&#8221;.\n<ul>\n<li>The Moodle gradebook records these as points between 10 and 2 (with 0 for a missing assignment).\u00a0 I use the words so that you will focus on my comments rather than on your score, while still giving you a sense of how your work meets my standards.<\/li>\n<li>The point system lets Moodle summarize each of the major assignment areas (below).\u00a0 You will thus always know how you are doing overall on this &#8220;Excellent&#8221;, &#8220;Satisfactory&#8221;, etc. scale.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>One consequence of this system is that bombing a single assignment will not kill your final course grade.\u00a0 Though it is not terribly easy to earn an 4.0 in this class, it is rather difficult to fail \u2013 <em>if you turn in your work<\/em>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><a href=\"#top\">go to top<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p><a name=\"Percents\"><\/a><strong>Course Segments (Percents):<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Like most courses, various assignments count toward different parts of your course grade.\u00a0 <strong><a title=\"Course Leadership\" href=\"http:\/\/McGuire-Spickard.com\/SOAN324WP\/?page_id=62\">Course Leadership<\/a> counts for 20%;<\/strong> that includes active attendance and both in-class and out-of-class contributions to others&#8217; learning.\u00a0 It specifically includes the <a title=\"Data Exercises\" href=\"http:\/\/McGuire-Spickard.com\/SOAN324WP\/?page_id=142\">four Data Exercises<\/a>\u00a0and your comments on other students&#8217;<a title=\"Blog Posts\" href=\"http:\/\/McGuire-Spickard.com\/SOAN324WP\/?page_id=115\">\u00a0Blog Posts.<\/a>\u00a0\u00a0<em>(See\u00a0<a title=\"How I Grade Course Participation\" href=\"http:\/\/McGuire-Spickard.com\/SOAN324WP\/?page_id=210\">this page<\/a>\u00a0for more details.)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Your own weekly <a title=\"Blog Posts\" href=\"http:\/\/McGuire-Spickard.com\/SOAN324WP\/?page_id=115\">Blog Posts<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0count for an additional\u00a0<strong>5%<\/strong>.\u00a0 I shall score all these for depth, for insight, and for what others can learn from them.<\/p>\n<p>There are five other major assignments, <strong>each of which counts for 15% of your course grade<\/strong>.
