Early Spickards

I have rethought the suggestion about Jacob Spickard that I relayed to you a
month or so ago, and have decided that I was wrong. I found a reference to
another Jacob Spickard in a biography of Robert Fletcher, of Indiana
(1806-1886), whose mother was that Jacob's daughter Margaret. As Margaret
was born in 1772 and her brother Henry was born in 1774 (both in western
VA), this Jacob is not the one we are seeking. Yet it seems likely that
"our" Jacob was this Jacob's son: his 1776 birthdate makes him more likely
an offspring of this family than of Julius', whose other children were born
much earlier. A birthplace just a bit west of where he first appears in the
records also makes the connection likely.

Further, the (brother) Henry Spickard mentioned in the Fletcher records was
the father of the Henry who appears in the 1850 Botetourt Co, VA census.
The latter's birthdate and subsequent location makes it likely that
(brother) Henry was the Henry Spickard who fathered the Margaret, John, and
Samuel Spickards who married into the Kessler family. The names, dates, and
locations match, more or less -- at least enough to make a plausible case.

And this case is much MORE plausible than assigning any of these lines to
Julius. At best, my ancestor Julius and the new Jacob Spickard were
related, but there is no way to tell how.
